Hedgehog Fur Test 2
Tried again last night with the "Fun Fur." The swatch consisted of 4 sections. 1) "chocolate" on 11s, 2) "sand" and "chocolate" on 11s, 3) "sand" on 11s, and 4) "sand" and "chocolate" on 13s.
Total felting time - almost FIFTY minutes. :-p
I like the combined color, but I worry about the felting time. If I go with a single color, I definitely prefer the chocolate, but in that case I'd probably switch to a dark gray/black base wool, which will make it look less patchy when finished than the dark against the light would.
Would love to hear your opinions on this issue. :)

- Section 1 felted down hardest (perhaps because it was on the end?), but looked patchiest with the dark brown fur against the off-white/gray wool.
- Section 2 looked great, but wasn't as firm until very late in the felting process, which could be a problem if the front (arms/legs/tummy/face) felts faster than the back.
- Section 3 looked ok, but it's definitely not a very hedgehog-y color by itself.
- Section 4 was an attempt to see whether the wool would felt better at a larger gauge when 3 strands were held together (compared to 2), but I liked 2 better (except for the time issue).

I don't think that there should be a problem with the tummy and face felting faster that the back. You could be right, though, it could be the position of the swatch. Try doing the #2 position swatch by itself and see if that makes a difference. Also, you may want to do a #2 swatch with a tummy/face swatch attached, and join the ends before you felt it so that it's a tube instead of a rectangle and see how it felts at that point.
